Solovetsky Island (RUS)
An exemplary place of Russian History
Isolated and meager Islands in the white sea. Main attraction is the
famous Russian Solovetsky Monastery Complex who was founded in
the 15th century. In the 18th century it was expanded to a strategic
unconquerable stronghold. Tsars and Sovjets used it as a prison
camp. Alexander Solzhenitsin called it the mother of the GULAG.
