The lens incorporated a mechanical curve that activates a roll on a lever in the casing. The
lever controls the split image range finder. The “mechanical autofocus” was born. Till in our
time it’s possible to use these lenses on all Leica screw mount and with an adapter ring on
the M mount (bayonet) camera system which was introduced in 1954. It suggests itself to
compare lenses from different periods in regard to mechanical compatibility and optical
quality.
